The Kickstart Scheme – launched yesterday (2 September) - aims to create new, 'quality' jobs for those aged 16 to 24. It is a six-month high-quality work placement designed to get long-term unemployed young people onto the career ladder.
The placements are open to those aged 16-24 who are claiming Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment.
The government will fund each Kickstart job - paying 100% of the relevant National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week, plus associated employer National Insurance contributions and employer minimum auto-enrolment pension contributions.
Employers can top up pay out of their own pockets or extend the hours if they wish.
In addition, the government is offering employers £1,500 to set up support and training for those taking part, or other set-up costs such as buying uniforms.
Please take a look at the guidance for employers via the following link to check if you are eligible to apply for the grant funding:
If you need any help with the grant application, or to process new employees through payroll, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and we will be happy to help.
